to Form a
Cooperative House in Cranston, RI
This is a cooperative housing project, based on unity, direct action, and harmony. Good candidates to live here will have a loving heart and a welcoming vibe for us, for their housemates and for the people of our network who come to visit.
The structure is a family home in Cranston, RI, built in 1960., with three bedrooms and two baths upstairs, and a full finished basement with its own entrance downstairs. It has a nice yard, sheltered all around by bushes and mature fruit trees. The full basement provides floor space for visitors in our network, who come to develop projects. You must be kind to visitors from our network, and share access to the family home with our network, except for the personal space of the bedroom you rent.
The full basement will also be equipped with computer access, an activist library, space to make music and room to work on cottage industries. We plan to develop the yard space with an expanded garden, a fresh sandbox for kids, and a rebuilt fire pit, in order to host potlucks and meetings. Plan to be flexible as minor repairs are made to the home.
There's off street parking for three or four cars, and the area is flat, if you prefer to ride a bike. The house is less than five miles to downtown Providence, RI, on the bus line, near a bike trail, and near a library. Reasonable smoking is ok. Reasonable, happy noise is ok. Animal residents are considered on a case by case basis.
Rooms will be available beginning in January of 2015. Rent is $400 per bedroom plus your share of the utilities, split evenly among all housemates. There's a $200 deposit. We would like you to commit to staying for at least three to six months. You will receive a full refund of your deposit when you move out with everything in good condition and everything on good terms.
If you have a green thumb, it's possible for you to get a medical card from the state, set up a grow room, and sell cannabis to a dispensary in Rhode Island. It must be done legally, and it could be a great source of regular income, for the person with the right skills. If you know how to vend at festivals, we find that very valuable too, and we want to know you, as vending is another income stream on which we'd like to rely, as we tour and distribute our zines. If you are a musician of reggae, folk, or similar music, we like that too, especially if you have cool friends who want to jam and hang out. We love musicians who activate people with conscious vibes.
